Zawar Mines
The Zawar mines are the oldest ones in the world, being used by the kings for more than 4000 years. Before the modern technology set in, the extraction was done using the open cast method.Presently, two major mining companies are working towards the extraction; the Hindustan Zinc Limited and the Vedanta Group.
the annual turnover is about 10,000,00 tonnes. The major products are zinc and lead and some mines also shovel out small amount of silver and iron.
The deposits are extracted from the four main Hills.
- Balaria Mine
Balaria is rich in the ore of Zinc (Zn). The reach to the deposits is by means of shaft followed by an ADIT of 80 metres. The ADIT is upto the SHAFT and then SHAFT reaches to different levels. Here total 8 levels are present.
- Mochia Mine
Mochia is rich in ZINC.The reach to the deposits is directly by means of SHAFT. In MOCHIA the ore from the other mines is collected and is then sent to the mill to analyse the mixed ore into the ores of Zinc (Zn) and Lead (Pb) seprately. In Mochia total 8 levels are present.
- Zawarmala mine and Baroi Mine
Located about 29 miles South East of Udaipur. The depth of the mine goes to 480 feet where 4 levels are separated at a gap of 120 feet vertically. The zinc and lead extraction is done through the metamorphosed dolomite, a mining technique as old as 400 B.C.
