Ekling Ji Temple

Situated exactly 22 kms in the north of Udaipur city, Eklingji Temple is an actually huge temple complex that accommodates whopping 108 temples in its complex vicinity. But the main temple here, which is also largest temple in entire complex vicinity, is dedicated to Lord Shiva that is worshiped here in the form of Ekling Ji deity (one of the incarnation of Lord Shiva). This main temple is also one of the oldest surviving temples of India.

Its construction dates back to year 734 A.D. The construction of this huge temple complex is credited to Mewar’s generation of dynastic rulers. Ekling ji was their family deity and hence had constructed the main temple along with entire temple complex as a tribute to Lord Shiva. Needless to say, Ekling Ji temple is absolutely must visit. Besides the main temple, other 107 temples dedicated to countless Hindu gods would take you to great spiritual journey which would in itself be a lifetime experience. And of course the fact that this temple complex is one of the largest temple complexes in entire India also makes it equally worth visiting.

Jagdish Ji Temple

This three storied temple is the largest temple of entire Udaipur city. This lone fact makes it one of the auspicious temples and also a worthwhile tourist destination of Udaipur city. Dedicated to Lord Vishnu (Swami Narayan; creator of universe), this largest temple of Udaipur city is also embellished with many beautiful architectural features, which equally makes it a wonderful sightseeing destination. One such distinct architectural feature is that this three storey temple has been raised on a huge terrace (25 feet high platform). This is the only famous temple in entire Udaipur that has been raised on a terrace, which lends a very dominating feel and further enhances the grandeur of this temple. And if nothing else, then beautiful four-armed black deity of Lord Vishnu enshrined inside the temple and huge brass sculpture of Garuda on temple’s gateway will spiritually soothe your heart and mind. This immensely scared temple is located in the vicinity of famous City Palace complex of Udaipur city.

Nagda Temples

Dedicated to Lord Vishnu, Nagda temples located in Nagda town constitutes of two famous temples. Today these two temples are popularly known as Sas Bahu temples, the literal English translation of which means Mother-in-law and Daughter-in-law. However, these famous temples have nothing to do with relationship of Mother-in-law and Daughter-in-law. Its popular name is actually derived from local corruption SahastraBahu, meaning “One with thousand arms”. As the name itself is unusual, so is the construction of these two temples.

How unconventional and unusual these temples are can be known & appreciated only when one witnesses it with its own naked eyes. In fact unusual structures of these temples are testimony of the engineering marvel and painstaking hard work of the artisans of that era. Even Archeological Survey of India has included these temples in its list of heritage monuments, which again indicates how priceless these temples are. Nagda temples are located 23 kms in the north-west of Udaipur city.
 

Ranakpur Temple

Located nearly 95 kms in the north of Udaipur city in the Ranakpur village, Ranakpur temple is a famous Jain temple that can be aptly termed as architectural marvel. It is widely considered amongst most beautiful Jain temples in the entire world. It is simply beautiful because it is completely constructed in pristine white marble and is set in the midst of lush greenery. The temple’s white marble structure and its setting are absolutely spell bounding to say the least. The temple is humongous in size too. The fact that this temple structure is supported by over 1444 marble pillars tells how humongous and large this temple is. This immensely beautiful and huge temple was constructed during 15th century by King Rana Kumbha with the help of a local prominent Jain businessman. Although this temple is very far away from Udaipur city, it is however easily reachable due to daily bus services.

Kankroli Temple

One of the most beautiful Lord Krishna temples in entire India. The temple gets its name from Kankroli town, located 65 kms away from Udaipur city. However, locals refer this temple as Dwarikadhish temple, as main deity enshrined in this temple is Lord Dwarikadhish - one of the seven forms of Lord Krishna. The temple building is itself very beautiful and its beauty is further enhanced by the lush greenery of the surrounding and the fact that it overlooks the majestic Rajsamand Lake. Besides temple’s deep religious sacredness, its enthralling setting plays as much pivotal role in drawing thousands of tourists on daily basis.

This famous Lord Krishna temple was built during 17th century by Maharana Raj Singh. He belonged to the Vaishnav sect and hence this temple is mainly frequented by devotees of Vaishnav sect.
