Lakes in Udaipur

Udaipur is known as the 'City of Lakes' for some reason and the reason being very apparent, with the location of a number of lakes. And due to the lakes which give a perfect romantic setting to the city attracts a lot of tourists and specially couples to enjoy its scenic beauty. Udai Sagar Lake

Located 13 km east of Udaipur, the Udai Sagar Lake is on Berach river and was built by Maharana Udai Singh somewhere during 1559-1565. It extends up to 4 km in length and is only 9m deep.The 2.5km width was designed earlier as the dam that was built initially. It has a capacity to hold 23.4 mili cubic of water.

How to reach: Regular buses, auto-rickshaws, taxis are easily available on this route.

Dudh Talai

Dudh Talai


The south east direction of Pichola lake is dedicated to Dudh Talai which is a small lake and also known as a landmark near the Shiv Vilas Palace. Known as the Pond of Milk, this lake offers amazing views of Lake Pichola, Jag Mandir, Lake Palace with the City Palace. Dudh Talai also offers the rope ways for sight seers to ponder over the different places around. It also has a park by the same name where the entrance is marked with a musical fountain and end with Karnimata Mandir and is open from 10 am to 5:30 pm.

How to reach: It is 24 km away from Udaipur Airport and within its vicinity of 4 km lies the Pichola lake, Arsi Vilas, Lake Palace and Jagdish temple.

Jiyan Sagar

Better known as Badi ka Talab, it is another striking lake located in the village of Badi (hence got it's name) at a distance of 10 km north east of Udaipur. Built by Maharana Raj Singh in memory of his mother Jana Devi, this lake is 180m long and 18 m wide and has three 'chhatris' (kiosks or pavilions) as its part.

How to reach: Easily accessible by taxi or local buses. All's included in some of the travel

Swaroop Sagar

A small artificial lake created by Maharaja Swaroop Singh, Swaroop Sagar is also known as Kumharia Talab. Close to it are places like Jagdish Temple, Chand Pol and it is connected with Lake Pichola and Fateh Sagar Lake.

How to reach:It can be reached via cab , local bus or auto rickshaw as airport, railway station and bus station lie within 22, 4 and 3 km respectively.
