Jhadol in Udaipur

Jhadol is a small town in Nuzvid Mandal in Udaipur district of Rajasthan. It is the headquarters of Jhadol sub-district and is sometimes written as Jhadol (Phalasia) to distinguish it from two other villages of same name in Udaipur district. It lies nearer to Udaipur overlooking a lake and is excellent for a group gate-away, bird watching and complete cut-off option for travelers.

History of Jhadol

History says that in the battle of Haldighati, Jhala Chieftain died fighting from Maharana Pratap's side. This show of bravery brought the royal family of Jhadol to Mewar history's limelight. Raja Kuber Singhji create the Jhadol lake by donating few of this property for public service.

People of Jhadol

Jhadol's culture is slightly different from other parts of Rajasthan. The people here are forest dwelling and warrior tribes with ancient lineage called Bhils.The Bhils held the unique privilege in coronation ceremony of ruler for their extended unpercedented loyalty to the house of Mewar. The Mewar coat of arms bears testimony to the central role that Bhil tribe has playes in this land for hundreds of years.

Religious festivals and places of Jhadol

Gavari is a forty-day religious ceremony performed by the Bhil and Mina tribal peoples of southern Rajasthan. Gavari honors Gauri, another name for the Hindu Goddess Parvati, Who is also worshippend during the Gangaur festival. The ritual is intended to ensure the well-being to the community and the village. The annual performances rotate between villages; while only Bhils perform them, other castes attend the performances and offer donations. All the roles are played by men, with troops consisting of twenty to one hundred men.

Folklore says that Rawana, the mythological asura from Ramayana meditated in Kamalnath to increase the power of his ten heads. There are about fourteen Hindu and Jain temples built in this region from 11th to 16th century. The  dense forests and Harnav river, a small stream, provide an excellent opportunity to experience nature. The other major monuments are: Lakhena Jain temple, Sadevant Savling Derasar, Saraneshwar temple and Shiva-Shakti temple.

Jhadol Bird Safari

Jhadol is famous for its Bird Safari. A bird lover can come across some of the most astonishing species over here. During the migration period, one could find varieties of butterflies, birds and other amphibians around the beautiful Jhadol lake. In the summer, part of the rich, fertile lake bed is used to farm vegetables the old way-organiclly and without any pesticides.
