Udaipur is a city in the state of Rajasthan, India. Udaipur is also known as the city of lakes, due to the large number of artificial and natural lakes in the city. Udaipur is also known as the White city. Udaipur used to be the capital of the Mewar empire of Rajputana and was ruled by the Sisodia clan. The royal family of Udaipur still lives at Udaipur today but not as rulers. Today Udaipur is a destination for all kinds of tourist and tourism is one of the major income producers for Udaipur itself and areas around it.
Location of Udaipur
Udaipur is located in the Indian state of Rajasthan and is the district headquarters for the Udaipur district and is also the municipality head quarter of the Udaipur district. Udaipur is spread across an area of 64 sq km. Udaipur is located about 403 km from Jaipur, the capital city of Rajasthan. The latitude and longitude coordinates of Udaipur are 24.58 N 73.68 E. Udaipur is located at 598 m above sea level. Udaipur is located in the south west of the state of Rajasthan and is close to other cities of Rajasthan like Jodhpur, Jaipur and Indore. Udaipur is also close to the city of Ahmadabad, Gujrat and Indore, Madhya Pradesh. The location of Udaipur made it a trading hub in earlier years because it used to act as a resting point for salt and fabric traders from Gujrat and for the traders traveling south from the Indus Delta region, this brought in a large amount of wealth into the city making the Newar empire prosper.
Udaipur’s Climate
The Climate of Udaipur like all places in Rajasthan is hot and arid but the presence of a large number of lakes act as a respite for the city dwellers. Being close to the desert region of Thar the difference between day and night climates at Udaipur are larger than the difference between summer and winter. The average temperature in winter ranges from 28.3C to 11.8C which makes it a perfect time to visit the city. in summer the temperature ranges from 40C to 28C, the temperature along with heat and dry winds makes traveling to the city very tough.
