The City Palace Museum

This is a museum located inside the historical City Palace complex. The huge complex was the residence of Maharajas of Mewar and was once the proud symbol of Mewar’s ascendency over Rajasthan state. The museum, needless to say, offers a rare glimpse into the lives of Mewar Maharajas through rich collection of their personal possessions and artifacts. Even though most of the artifacts are centuries old, but have been very well maintained with lot of painstaking efforts and hence unsurprisingly exude royal aura even today.

Exhibitions in Udaipur

This is another one of those places that will overwhelm you with Udaipur’s rich & golden royal history. Located inside Hotel Garden, this place showcases rare collection of beautiful luxury cars that were once owned by the Maharajas of Mewar. And each vintage car here indeed exudes with yesteryear royalty. Amongst them the most notable & worthwhile attractions are Rolls-Royce, 1939 Cadillac open convertibles, rare Mercedes models, 1936 Vauxhall and 1937 Opel models. The names of such vintage cars are enough to suggest the kind of royal collection of cars one will find here. This museum is in fact one of its kind in entire India and here visitors indeed get to relive the Udaipur’s golden royal era. After all, car has always been one of the favorite possessions of royal families.

Crystal Gallery


Udaipur Exhibitions

Located inside famous Fateh Prakash Palace hotel, this gallery exhibits one of the largest collections of crystal items in the entire world. And mind you, each item here is embellished with pure royalty. All these crystal items were personal collections of Maharaja Sajjan Singh, who had ordered it from F. & C. Osler, one of the foremost manufacturers of crystal items during Victorian age. This Crystal Gallery includes items like crystal chairs, sofas, tables and even beds.

Timings: 9.00 am to 7.00 pm.
Entry fees: Rs.525 per Adult, Rs. 315 per Child (inclusive of complementary breakfast).

Shilpgram Museum

This is one of the most unlikely museums not only in Udaipur, but in entire India. After all, how many renowned museums of India can take immense pride for being located in the midst of a beautiful village? Located 3 kms in the west of Udaipur city near Havala village, Shilpgram Museum is one of the few ethnographic museums (museums that are set in real like world) present in India today. Shilpgram means “Craftsmen’s Village” and very true to its name it compromises of a make-believe village set in 70 acres of natural surroundings at the foot of the Aravali Hills. In this make-believe village are displayed beautiful arts and craft articles that are only made in rural India. This museum is indeed a small world of rural arts and crafts and the one that is surely worth visiting.
